(Maitre'D Millennium, and later versions of Maitre'D)
Two models have been tested: AEDEX PD-220XLT
and AEDEX PSD-220G.
Basic Information:
The pole display supported by the Maitre'D system uses the AEDEX protocol for transparent operation between the
Point of Sale and a printer. The pole can be connected to any serial port
with or without a printer connected to it.
To set up the pole in the Maitre'D system, one just need to go to the Point
of sale setup and specify on which port the pole is to be found.
To set up the pole, the pole must be at 9600 baud, one stop bit, no parity
and 8 data bits. The terminator character for AEDEX
control string is he Carriage return (0x0D).
What can go wrong:
The pole does not display properly or displays nothing.
Check
the pole's programming for proper protocol emulation and speed setup.
Is
there power going to the pole?
The printer connected to the pole does not print.
Is
the output port of the pole disabled?
The
pole inverses the signals on the RS232 cable. You must use a different
connector on the printer than the one you had when that printer was connected
directly on the POS. The pole inverses only TX and RX (pins 2 and 3) signals,
the others are direct.
The printer prints what the pole is supposed to show.
The
pole does not filter its commands. Check that the pole wakes up with the
AEDEX protocol as default setting.
The pole is connected on the same port used by a RS232 drawer.
The
Maitre'D system uses 300 baud when communicating to a plain drawer.
The
pole can not be connected to the same port since communication to the
pole is done at 9600 baud only. An intelligent drawer working at 9600
baud could not necessarily be used either because the ring indicator signal
used to detect the opening of the drawer would likely not be re-transmitted
by the pole since it is not a data signal but a hardware signal. The rule
would be to put the drawer on a separate port.
The pole is a parallel model.
Currently,
we do not support parallel port models for the pole. Only serial ports
can be programmed in the configuration of the POS.

In order to get this display working, a cable must be set to install between
AEDEX pole display Y cable supplied and Maitre'D
workstation as in the following sample:
