Preparing for Daylight Saving Time Changes in 2007

Beginning in 2007, daylight saving time (DST) will be extended in the United States and Canada. DST will start on March 11, 2007, which is three weeks earlier than usual, and it will end on November 4, 2007, which is one week later than usual. This results in a new DST period that is four weeks longer than in previous years.

Since the Maitre'D application uses the time provided by Windows, it is important to take note of the Windows updates that will be available.

Unless certain updates are applied to your computer, the time zone settings for your computer's system clock may be incorrect during this four-week period. In particular, you must make sure that both your Windows operating system and your calendar programs are updated.

Supporting the DST changes on Windows operating systems

Microsoft will be producing an update for Microsoft products affected by the new United States daylight saving time transition dates.

These updates will be released through a combination of channels including Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS), hot fixes incorporated in Knowledge Base articles, Windows Update, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), and the Microsoft Download Center.

Find out more on the Microsoft web site, and check their web site regularly to find links to key documents and articles that provide more information on DST adjustments for other Microsoft products:

Windows can be manually updated using Microsoft's TZEdit.exe utility, that allows to create and edit time zone entries for the Date and Time settings in the Control Panel.

Download the TZEdit.exe utility package straight from the Microsoft Download Server:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/8/a/58a208b7-7dc7-4bc7-8357-28e29cdac52f/tzedit.exe

  1. Download the above TZEdit package (executable zipped file)

  2. Unzip the 2 contained files in the default directory.

  3. Start the "Time Zone Editor" (C:\Program Files\TZEdit\TZEDIT.exe)

  4. Edit the required time zone. [ (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US and Canada), for example ]

  5. Open the Control Panel and click on "Date and Time".

  6. Click on the "Time Zone" tab.

  7. Choose the same time zone.

  8. Click on OK.

The time zone change is done for the Server, repeat for all workstations.

Note: TZEdit does not work with Windows 98. There is a registry fix for Windows 98 at the link above, but Posera will not support any issues with this fix. You can install this at your own risk:
