SHARP DOS workstations Memory Issue (Models UP-5300 / UP-5700)
(Maitre'D 2003, through Maitre'D 2003 Service Pack 2)
Issue:
It is possible, depending on configuration, that a DOS workstation's
available conventional memory may be insufficient when running Maitre'D
2003.
Note: This affects SHARP's UP-5300 / UP-5700 and other manufacturers'
DOS products)
Symptoms:
This can cause problems with workstation operations, going as far as
freezing up, and with the proper functioning of peripheral devices, going
as far as failure.
Resolution:
Maitre'D has resolved this issue with Service Pack 2, but until they
can update to the latest Service Pack, SHARP dealers who have already
upgraded locations using DOS workstations to Maitre'D 2003 should follow
these steps to resolve this issue:

- Contact SHARP POS support at Posspt@SHARPsec.com
or (201) 529-8900 to obtain the available UP5X DOS .Zip file that contains
the modified Confi5xx.tx files for manual installation. Included in that
archive are the following files:
- Confi500.tx
- Confi501.tx
- Confi550.tx
- Confi531.tx
These are modified source files from which Maitre'D builds the Config.sys
for the SHARP workstations. These modifications remove a seldom used device
driver and free 12K of additional conventional memory.
Note: If a location is using the SHARP UP-T80BP internal printer or
the SHARP UP-P20DP Pole / Internal Customer Display DO NOT upgrade to
Maitre'D 2003, because due to the removal of this driver, these 2 peripherals
would no longer operate.
- Copy these files into the following directory, overwriting
any existing files;
C:\Posera\MaitreD\Prg
- Perform the APLD operation on all DOS workstations.
- Available memory on a DOS workstation can be read
by typing 444 and [ENTER] at the server sign on screen. Perform this 444
memory test on the workstations to insure that your memory is above 22Kb

Note: SHARP's UP-5300 / UP-5700 workstations are NOT supported passed
Maitre'D 2003 Service Pack 2.
