Technical Note: 20040525022
Setup Workstation with Backup Server to be shipped from Corporate Office
to Restaurant (almost plug and play)
(Maitre'D 2003, from Service Pack 6 and later versions of Maitre'D)
Note: With Windows XP, Windows 2000, NT4, etc... the users will
need the proper access to do this.
Corporate Office
- Setup at the Corporate Office must be exactly same
as in the restaurant a. Same name for Main Back Office Server b. Same
name for Emergency Backup / Workstation PC. Same IP address for each Server
- Perform a sales deletion on the Main Back Office
Server so the Emergency Backup PC does not carry undesirable data (archive,
etc...)
- Install Workstation software on Emergency Backup
/ Workstation PC using same workstation number as in the restaurant. Make
sure the workstation application starts normally before proceeding to
next step
- Install Emergency Backup application on Emergency
Backup Server / Workstation PC. Reboot when prompted to. When Emergency
Backup / Workstation PC is rebooted, redo all workstation Data from Main
Back Office Server
- Once again, make sure the Emergency Backup / Workstation
PC starts normally (Workstation application and Backup Server application).
- You are ready to ship to the restaurant
Restaurant
- Make sure all other workstations are disconnected
from the network while you are resetting the Emergency Backup / Workstation
PC
- Redo all workstation data on the Main Back Office
Server
- Plug in the new Emergency Backup / Workstation PC
and turn the power on. The Workstation application will start as well
as the Emergency Backup application, but at this time the data on the
Emergency Backup / Workstation PC is still the data from the Corporate
Office, and not the data from the restaurant
- Exit from the workstation application
- On the Main Back Office Server, in C:\Posera\ MaitreD\Data
there is a series of file named: EODUPD.??? where ??? is the workstation
number. (i.e.: 001, 002, etc...). These files sizes are 0 byte. This is
OK. The file corresponding to the workstation number that has your Emergency
Backup will not be present. Simply take another one of these files, copy
it to your desktop, rename it with the right extension (the extension
of your workstation number (i.e.: 001, 002, etc...) then copy this file
back into C:\Posera\MaitreD\Data on the Main Back Office Server. The Main
Back Office Server will then start transferring all data to the Emergency
Backup / Workstation PC. Unfortunately, it might be difficult to see anything
happening. If you have a Hard Disk Drive LED on the PC, you might be able
to see that something is actually happening. Depending on the speed of
your PC, this process could take up to 15 minutes
- Make sure all files have been transferred by comparing
the number of files, the sizes of those files, etc... in the different
folders under C:\Posera\MaitreD on both PCs (Main Back Office Server and
Emergency Backup / Workstation)
- Restart all workstations, including the Emergency
Backup / Workstation PC
